    The Research

    Role Models Matter

A Gallup study commissioned by Amazon on how role models shape young people's confidence, aspirations, and belief in their future — the evidence behind our work.

    Key Findings

    What the research found

    84% vs. 28%

Of young adults from financially comfortable households, 84% had a career role model growing up — versus just 28% of those whose families struggled to pay the bills.

    82% vs. 56%

When a role model shared similar life experiences, young adults were far more likely to say that person helped them believe in themselves.

    68% vs. 51%

Young adults who had a successful career role model say their current career is fulfilling — compared with barely half of those who didn't.

    70%

Of adults raised in families that often struggled financially received little or no career education in middle and high school.

“...career role models who show students what's possible and how to achieve it, opening career paths they may have otherwise never considered.”
